The worst room in the house
The bathroom is the highest maintenance room in the home.
It usually requires daily cleaning of some nature and is likely to need regular redecorating as a result of deterioration due to the effect of moisture. Fortunate is the family that can claim never to have experienced mould or mildew in their bathroom.
The problem is most noticeable during the cooler winter months when the temperature differences between outside and inside are greater and windows are kept shut to retain heat.
Modern home construction accentuates the problem as all the drafts experienced in older homes have been eliminated and the house is well insulated, making the ideal environment for mould to grow if an area remains damp.
With this in mind a Tauranga company has invented an astonishingly simple but marvellous product that reduces the problem by eliminating moisture from the bathroom shower – the Showerdome.
The Showerdome is a specially designed patented acrylic dome that is professionally fitted to the shower making a clear ‘roof’ that stops cold air from the room entering the shower, mixing with the hot water and causing steam.
A shower with a reasonably well fitting door, fitted with a Showerdome top simply does not generate any steam. No steam in the shower - no moisture in the bathroom. There is no need to open windows, run heaters and extraction fans or have heated mirrors. Adjacent rooms and wardrobes do not become damp. There is not even mist on the mirror.
The Showerdome has no moving parts to wear out, costs nothing to run, is unobtrusive, is relatively inexpensive to buy and lasts indefinitely. The shower water temperature can be turned down and, as windows and extractors are not causing warmth to escape, considerable savings in electricity can be gained. A dry bathroom does not need to be wiped dry each day and paint is not damaged.
Benefits of a Showerdome are astonishing.
A damp bathroom is a depressing place. With a Showerdome the bathroom becomes a healthy pleasant room and improves your lifestyle.
It is an especially good product for rental properties where tenants often take little interest in drying the bathroom. If a Showerdome is fitted it doesn’t matter if the windows remain closed and fans are not switched on – the bathroom is always dry.
It is envisaged that within a few years the Showerdome will be a normal fixture in every new home and retrofitted to most existing homes. There are currently over 20,000 Showerdomes in New Zealand and Australia. Referrals by delighted owners accounts for the greatest growth.
